Fuck! I love jazz!
Jazz is the only type of music that has challenged me playing guitar thats why i love it
the style is like learning a new langauage

I played thelonius monk's " monks dream" for a jazz festival at my school and i butchered it :/

You can't generalize jazz into 'music', I know plenty about death metal or rock.

Jazz and blues are what created rock and metal.

You guys don't pick apart the music? You don't examine the talent? I guess it's more of being a drummer myself, listening to music that wont challenge me as a drummer bores me. That's why I don't listen to rap, jazz, most reggae, and pop. Metal involves so much talent, and a complete mastery of specific skills as a drummer, including jazz drumming.

most metal "drummers" are actually machines on there cds you know

there are only a few good drummers in metal, like, deftones drummer is amazing, so is the holly sprins disaster

and the black dahlia murders drummer is crazy too.

and if you think that jazz wont challenge you as a drummer, you should listen to tony williams

Anyways, your statistic is horribly incorrect. Most metal artists do not use machines, especially in death metal ex: Despised Icon, TBDM, White Chapel, JFAC all amazingly good drummers, seen them all live.

Jazz is a challenged drumming in jazz is pretty hard i dont know how to explain it because im not a drummer im a guitarist. Metal is hard to play but if you know your fret board and have the speed you can play it like nothing. On guitar :]

I play all kinds of music I dont read TAB because i hate it, it doesn't offer a challenge I stick to the old music theory because it shows you how a song should sound and if you read it right you can improv like a mastah!

The kind of metal I listen to is more than throwing out notes, it takes rhythm and the ability to follow complex time signatures among other things.

bands like JFAC TBDM and white chapel and the others you mentioned dont have any complex time signatures, its all 4/4, with the occasional 3/4 or 6/4. whereas jazz and classical ( a lot of jazz and classical is 4/4 as well) but there is a lot that is in really obscure signatures like 5/4 or 9/8 or 2+3+2/4

metal overall is not a very complex language not only because of the times, but the rhythmns of a lot of metal are all very straight forward

As I said, the metal I listen to is much more complex than you assume. If you'd like to contest, try and play it yourself.
